Beni Ourain is a handmade Moroccan rug made from natural, undyed wool. It is made to take advantage of the natural texture of the material, and each rug has a different pile length, density, and grid-like line spacing and thickness.
　
The name Beni Ouarain comes from the Beni Ouarain tribe, a nomadic Berber people living in northern Morocco. The sheep in this region have long hair and produce some of the highest quality wool in Morocco. Rugs made from this high-quality wool are essential to the Beni Ouarain tribe, as gifts for celebrations and as dowries for weddings. Originally, they were made as gifts rather than for sale in Morocco. The geometric patterns often found on Beni Ouarain rugs are motifs passed down among the tribe, with the inverted triangle representing "home" and the diamond representing "protecting the home."

Leading Nordic designer Alvar Aalto and world-renowned architect Le Corbusier also used Beni Ourain in their homes, and if you visit Aalto's own home, you can still see Beni Ourain products coordinated with Aalto's furniture.
These handmade rugs are attracting worldwide attention for their modern, simple yet sophisticated design, while still conveying the history and culture of the region and tribe.

Beni Ourain rugs are handmade by local artisans. Unlike industrially produced rugs, which are made in a controlled environment with consistent quality, each rug is unique in quality. The pile length, softness of the wool, the presence or absence of the distinctive wool smell, distortion, and thickness all vary from rug to rug. Please be aware of this before placing your order.

[Maintenance]
Dry in the shade on a sunny day and beat off the dust. When vacuuming, be sure to do so gently to avoid damaging the pile and fibers. If you accidentally spill a drink or something on it, if it's made of cotton, quickly dab it with a tightly wrung cloth to remove the stain. For regular maintenance, we recommend drying in the shade and beating the dust off.
