Japan’s first cardboard cat scratcher.

“The raw material is actually cardboard.” That surprising answer came from Mr. Ina of *Kurafuto Kobo Crear*, the craftsman who pioneered cardboard scratchers in Japan. Since his first creation as a child, he has produced countless works, and one day saw the potential in layered cardboard—leading to the development of this cat scratcher.

What’s your biggest focus?

Chasing the perfect design that cats truly love. The subtle curves took many trials to perfect. Each cardboard sheet is cut and layered by hand, with special attention to durability. I also use special blades to give the cardboard a wavy cross-section, increasing strength. The result? That satisfying *crunching sound* when cats scratch—a detail owners really notice.

And the materials?

Unlike mass-produced scratchers made from imported lightweight cardboard, we use **Japanese 5-ply reinforced cardboard (W-float grade)**, typically used for heavy shipping. It’s not only stronger and more durable, but also produces less debris. All materials and processes meet strict Japanese standards (JIS), ensuring exceptional quality—and everything is made domestically.
