Why did you choose birds, fish, and flowers for this design?
I drew birds, fish, and flowers in the way I like and thought everyone would find them cute.
If you have any memories related to cats, please tell us.
There was a time when I had little work to do and was able to relax in the apartment I used to live in.
I started feeding stray cats in front of my apartment, and gradually cats started gathering around...
In the end, a sign was put up saying, "Please do not feed stray cats" (laughs).
What made you start out as a painter?
Because there was no other work I could do.
I'm also curious about why they decided to base themselves in Kagawa.
This is because it is a city that is home to the art museum of Inokuma Genichiro, a painter I respect.
Is there anything you keep in mind when creating your work?
The question is, can I hang the picture I drew in my room?
That has become one of the standards.
Please tell us about the people and places that have influenced you.
They were the teachers and friends I met at an art school called Setsu Mode Seminar.
Who is your favorite artist?
Osamu Tezuka, Fujiko F. Fujio, Hayao Miyazaki, Henri Matisse, RC Succession, Elephant Kashimashi, Tatsuro Yamashita.
How do you usually relax?
In the evenings after I finish painting, I like to listen to records while drinking beer.
What are you interested in or into lately?
My favorite is collecting records from the jazz label Blue Note.
Is there anything that you find a little scary?
The deadline for the drawing is here... (sweat).
Food preferences too, if you like.
My favorite foods are beer and potato chips.
What I hate is... "large portions" (laughs).
What does art mean to you, Ichiro?
Something that is part of your everyday life.
I think it's not something to be placed in a special place, but something that is quietly present in everyday life.
