Ichiro Yamaguchi is a painter based in Kagawa, drawn there by the modernist painter Genichiro Inokuma, whose own roots run deep in the prefecture. Born in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, he studied at Setsu Mode Seminar in Tokyo and spent years working as an illustrator before turning to painting in 2007. Working mainly in acrylic, he paints with a touch that seems to scoop up the scenery of an ordinary day and the small movements of feeling inside it. He has held solo exhibitions in Japan and abroad, and has collaborated widely with other artists and with brands. What he holds onto is the quiet presence a painting brings into a home - and the line that could only be drawn in this particular moment.

Pour the water in, and a story appears inside the bowl. In the small stretch of time your cat spends drinking, a gentle painting wavers below the surface.
A water bowl with a painting on it, made by the artist Ichiro Yamaguchi and &CAT. It came out of a project with the interior shop G.E.M, and this is a one-time run. Fish, birds, flowers - three motifs that settle easily into the air of a home, and that loosen something in you just by looking at them. One customer told us they found themselves staring at the painting floating in the bowl.
Ichiro Yamaguchi has spoken in his own words about what he put into these motifs and about living alongside cats - the interview is worth reading.

Care & Cautions

• You may see variation in the glaze, small black specks, or pinholes - tiny pinprick-sized dots in the glaze surface. These come from minerals in the clay and the glaze reacting to the heat of the kiln. They are not dirt, and they are not faults.
• Every piece is made by hand, so shape, dimensions and color vary slightly even within the same product.
• Ceramic can crack or chip if it takes a hard knock.
• Stop using a piece that is chipped or cracked - it can cause injury.
• Do not scrub with metal scourers, powdered cleansers or hard sponges. They will scratch the surface.
• If you set the bowl directly on the floor, we recommend putting a mat underneath to protect your flooring.
• Wipe the wooden base with a cloth wrung out well in water.
• The wooden base may develop fine cracks over time as the wood ages.
• Product photos are edited to come as close to the real colors as we can, but the shade you see may differ depending on your monitor settings and the lighting in your room.
