Koseigama

What richness looks like, to Koseigama. Koseigama is a small workshop standing among the fields and hills of Shigaraki, in Shiga prefecture, run by the potter Koichi Maekawa alongside his family and three cats. The cats, going about their days entirely as they please, are where the making starts. The pieces come out unhurried, with a warmth somewhere in them - the kind of thing that settles into daily life and quietly keeps an eye on it.

A cat figurine made especially for &CAT by Koseigama.
The model was Maru, the British Shorthair who belongs to our owner.
A rounded form with a settled weight to it. The black-and-white markings sit softly across the shape, and the copper eyes catch a small point of light. Slightly put out, and somehow proud of himself at the same time - that expression is Maru exactly.
Set it on a shelf and the air in the room eases a little. It turned out to be an object with a gentle kind of presence.
