Architecture, standing quietly,

Even the time a cat spends drinking can become part of what makes a room beautiful. TATARA is a water stand built out of the conversation between two unlike materials - iron and porcelain - and it holds its stillness. A perfect circle at the base and another at the top, joined by a single line that folds at a sharp angle: solid iron, stripped down to nothing but what it needs. For all the weight of the material there is a lightness to it, closer to an object placed in a room than to a bowl. At 15 cm, the height supports a cat's natural drinking posture - a new shape for drinking water, where beauty and use hold together.

A bowl on the floor pulls the neck down, and that load lands on the body every time they drink. At 15 cm, the stand holds the water where a cat can reach it with its posture intact.

Made by hand, one at a time, in Seki.

The iron base is made by Sugiyama Seisakusho in Seki, Gifu - a city known for its blades. A metalworker who has spent more than twenty years with iron does everything from the welding to the chamfering of the edges.

Enough weight that neither a robot vacuum nor a cat is going to tip it over. It quietly takes the accidents out of having water on the floor.

The Mino ware porcelain bowl is 14.5 cm across and 4.5 cm deep, holding around 500 ml. Porcelain barely absorbs water, which keeps it hygienic, and the bowl comes out to go in the microwave or the dishwasher. It also takes around 200 g of dry food, so it works as a food bowl.

The glaze isn't taken all the way across; some of the warm brown clay body is deliberately left bare. That texture under your fingertips is where the handwork shows. Soft Shiratsuchi and space-tightening Sumiguro are colors shared with HM BOWL and CHALICE, so pairing it with a food bowl gives your cat's table a quiet consistency.
